The Semaphore Workers Club is affectionately known as a premier blues, live music and hospitality venue in South Australia. Its history is rooted in community activism and provides a safe space for alternative communities to come together and work towards better futures. The club’s main objective is to promote unity of labour for peace, democracy and socialism with equality and rights for lower socio-economic members of our community.
Over time, the club has amassed a unique collection of art, posters, banners, stickers and propaganda from progressive movements across South Australia. Further to this, they have acquired such items as the United Trades and Labour Council bar, formerly the basement bar of Trades Hall South Australia and a sturdy wooden table also from Trades Hall.
The history of the club is quite literally written all over the walls and perfectly expresses their connection with the struggles of the past in contrast to their ongoing fight for justice into the future.
