This post is not to explore the nuanced meanings and reflections of mutual aid, but to highlight it since it is at the forefront of our world today. The wonderful thing about mutual aid is that participation is not defined by anyone other than the parties involved. It provides us with the path to creating –evolving– into a better world for everyone. The connections and community that are being formed through, free rides for medical professionals when public transportation has been shut down, organizing to support people during rent strikes, teaching communities how to create d.i.y. handwashing stations, providing free groceries for the community, and so forth, will live on long after the pandemic.
A Radical Guide is in conversation with several communities around the world and is in conversations on how to support, raise awareness, and provide direct action where needed. One of the important areas, we believe, is making sure local (and global) radical organizations are supported, one example is PM Press. PM Press has supported the radical community for years, not only by producing and providing great radical thought to the world but in supporting local infoshops and radicals throughout the world. Radical literature is so important in the world, no matter what crisis is happening and especially during a global crisis.
That is why A Radical Guide is supporting them. We had the honor of helping them create their project video, the video above, for their Kickstarter campaign. If you have the means, please support them during these times.
The original idea was to do an in-person video recording, and as you know with any project – things sometimes don’t go as planned. In this case, California issued a stay-at-home order and it forced us to be creative. We hope you like the video.
All we have is each other!
