WACA – Whistleblowers, Activists and Communities Alliance – is a grassroots community alliance that educates, advocates, activates and agitates for change from the local to the global level in an attempt to assert and establish our human, civil and environmental rights as non negotiable foundation stones for a peaceful, sustainable local and global community.
WACA was originally formed in 2010 as the WikiLeaks Australian Citizens Alliance in response to the Australian Government’s hostility towards Wikileaks and its complicity in the United States of America’s agenda to criminalise whistleblowers, Julian Assange, and the work of WikiLeaks.
In 2014 WACA changed it’s name to ‘Whistleblowers, Activists and Communities Alliance’ to more broadly encompass the growing local and global movement which is standing against the agenda of permanent warfare, corporate collusion or corruption, environmental destruction and the degradation of human and civil rights, including the imposition of global civilian surveillance as revealed by whistleblower Edward Snowden.
WACA is an independent volunteer community alliance made up of autonomous, active concerned individuals and communities in Australia and overseas. We campaign in various ways for transparency and accountability for those in positions of power and influence within our democracies. We believe when our leaders refuse to take action, we the people must step forward as community and lead the way. Democracy is not a spectator sport. The time for action is now.
We educate, advocate, activate and agitate for change from the local to the global level.
We support community resistance and alternatives to the; endless US dirty wars, corporate domination of our democracy, the militarization of civilian and cyber space and corporate environmental destruction for fossil fuel profits, creating cataclysmic climate change.
We support whistleblowers, activists and citizen/activist journalists brave enough to bypass the mainstream media and expose the hidden agendas of corporations and co-opted governments or institutions.
We believe communities must not only resist, but also work to create a peaceful, sustainable, co-operative future for our global community and for the survival of the planet.
Resistance is useless without an alternative model for our future.
WACA runs campaigns, events, provides a platform and logistical support for community groups, produces independent media, innovates direct action, facilitates activist training, develops networks across the legal, media, arts and political fields, operates this website, Twitter and Facebook accounts and much more.
