JINWAR Free Women’s Village is an ecological women’s village currently under construction in the heart of Rojava (West Kurdistan/ North Syria). As images of the Women’s Defense Units’ (YPJ) successful resistance against ISIS continue to spread all over the world, the Rojava Revolution has shown the true potential of women. Now, the women of Rojava have come together once again to continue in their struggle for a free and peaceful life through the creation of an ecological women’s village called JINWAR.

In the midst of the ongoing Syrian Civil War, JINWAR aims to provide an alternative, peaceful place for the co-existence of women, free of any and all violence. The village was founded on the principles of self-sustainability and aims to give women the opportunity to provide for their own basic needs. There will be gardens, orchards, livestock, lands, and various workshops, as well as a school and an art centre. Built by women and for women, the village will be home to Rojavan women of all ethnicities and religions, and their children.

Reconstructing our homes as havens of peace is a significant act of resistance in the face of violence and war. But far from being simply a collection of houses, the village will also provide an alternative way of life. Building onto the rich cultural heritage and historic knowledge of women, JINWAR aims to create a way of life in which every woman can reach her full potential free of the constraints of the oppressive power structures of patriarchy and capitalism.

JINWAR will be a place for woman to collectively rediscover, re-establish, and reclaim her inherent freedom.

JINWAR is supported by women’s organizations all over the world. As an independent foundation, it is locally collaborating with the women’s communes and organizations including but not limited to: The Free Women’s Foundation of Rojava (Weqfa Jina Azad a Rojava), Kongreya Star, the Association of Martyrs’ Families, the Committee for Women’s and Children’s Affairs of Canton Cîzirê, and the Jineology Committee.
