Grave of Buenaventura Durruti

Be the first to review

General and major anarchist figure during the Spanish Civil War. Working closely with the Anarcho-Syndicalist groups CNT-FAI, he led the 3,000-strong Durruti Column to fight against the Nationalist forces of Francisco Franco. While defending Madrid, Durruti was shot in disputed circumstances and died the next day in a makeshift hospital. Over 250,000 people attended his funeral in Barcelona. Today, Durruti remains a lasting icon of anarchism, both in Spain and around the world.
