O Centro de Cultura Social de São Paulo é o remanescente de uma prática comum do movimento libertário no Brasil. Tem como principal objetivo o aprimoramento intelectual, a prática pedagógica e os debates públicos. Para tanto lança mão de  meios como palestras, cursos, seminários, filmes, peças teatrais, entre outros, além de manter um acervo de arquivo e biblioteca voltada principalmente para o anarquismo. Desenvolve assim formas de ação e de formação de militantes e de livres pensadores, tendo sido comum a formação de diversos centros de cultura ou congêneres  no primeiro meado do século XX. A finalidade do CCS é, inclusive estatutariamente, estimular, apoiar e promover nos meios populares o estudo de todos os problemas que se relacionam com a questão social, não somente de cunho anarquista mas de maneira plural, havendo o especial cuidado de manter-se distante de qualquer instrumentação externa,seja de partidos políticos ou não. O CCS é independente de qualquer outra organização. Tem constituição de pessoa jurídica e tem seu funcionamento regido pelo seu estatuto. A gestão se dá pela comissão administrativa do CCS ,eleita anualmente,cumpridora das deliberações de assembléias de seus sócios efetivos, havendo a participação de seus sócios contribuintes. Sendo uma entidade sem fins lucrativos, o CCS mantém-se apenas por contribuição de seus sócios e simpatizantes.
