Boscombe Free Shop

Be the first to review

Boscombe Free Shop runs every Friday afternoon, from around 1-5pm, rain or shine, outside of the Boscombe Arts building on the high street (opposite the Costa – boycott them with our free tea and coffees!) We usually have a good selection of free clothes, books, homeware, toys, and some perishable foods, come by for a chat and to get some new-to-you treasures.

The Free Shop brings together likeminded folks who want to build a community network of care where no one has to buy things new to get what they want or need. It’s good for the environment, it’s good for getting to know your neighbours, and it undermines the rhetoric of the far right. Intentionally radical and anti-capitalist. Everything for everyone. Solidarity not charity!

FAQs

Q You don't have much online presence now, are you still going?

Yes! We operate in real space on Friday afternoons but don't keep up to date with social media. Just because you don't see posts from us doesn't mean we're not still going so come find us on the street.

Q If it's raining, will you be out?

We show up every Friday afternoon other than Christmas/New Year, whatever the weather. Look for us under the shelter of the arts building if it's raining or windy.

Q Who is the Free Shop for?

Everyone! You don't have to *need* something to take it, you can just want it. There is no scarcity so take whatever you want.

Q Is it really free?

Yes, everything is free. We don't ever accept any money for anything at the stall. You can donate objects that you don't want anymore, but there is no obligation to donate anything to take things from the Free Shop.

Q Are you some kind of organisation?

We get asked a lot by folks passing by whether we're an organisation, charity or part of a church, but no, we have no formal structure and are just people who want to create community based around mutual aid. You're very welcome to join us - there's no divide between sides of the table, it's as much your Free Shop as anyone else's.
