Definitions
Before we jump into the content, let’s get on the same page about the terms we will be using:
- Liberation refers to the process and outcomes of freeing societies and individuals from oppressive systems that limit freedom based on race, gender, class, and other discriminatory factors. It involves dismantling these structures to achieve a more equitable and just society.
- Social Transformation is the profound and wide-reaching change in the structure and behavior of society towards greater equity and justice. This transformation encompasses shifts in social policies, cultural norms, and institutional practices to create environments that uplift all individuals equitably.
- Oppression is a system of power and control that advantages some groups at the expense of others. It manifests through unjust social structures, practices, and attitudes that systematically disadvantage individuals based on their identity, such as race, gender, sexuality, and economic status.
These definitions will guide our discussion and help clarify the principles and actions we will explore throughout this booklet.
